Repurchase Claims Analyst - CitiMortgage, O'Fallon, Missouri

Responsibilities
  • Leads risk mitigation activities on a portfolio of repurchase claims made to or by Citi.
  • Minimize exposure on repurchase claims from investors or to counterparties within the terms and conditions of the governing purchase and sale agreements.
  • Mitigates risk through reasonable and sustainable counter-positioning of facts and strong positioning of issues and through negotiation strategies designed to create weaknesses in the investors' case or the counterparties' counter-arguments, to refute the counterparties' claims or defenses, and / or to reduce the amount at risk; and if in the pursuit of counterparties, to recover any losses Citi has sustained.
  • Negotiate and execute remedies to offset exposure from the repurchase claims utilizing delegated authority for decision-making.
  • Evaluate counterparties' financial strengths and weaknesses, create and implement a resolution strategy, and complete a cost / benefit analysis on non-resolved loans to make the decision on whether to pursue legal action.
  • Provides training and allocates work to others, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • 6+ years experience in the banking industry with specific experience in the Mortgage area and the repurchase function
  • Ability to negotiate complex repurchases and settlements, operate within delegated authority to make risk-based decisions
  • Ability to identify red flags to prevent fraud and mitigate risk to the corporation.
  • Familiarity with the legal processes involved in repurchase, litigation experience a plus
  • Comprehensive understanding of the mortgage origination process with strong underwriting/QC knowledge for first and second mortgages
  • Experience with and understand of the secondary market process and policies and its impact on exit strategies and appraisal review
  • Prior experience in Underwriting, QC, Fraud is a plus
  • Ability to negotiate complex repurchases and settlements
